How global emergency alerts work

Global Emergency Alerts sends selected serious emergency alerts by browser and device push notification. It is built to reduce noise, not to replace official emergency warnings, emergency services advice or local authority instructions.

Monitored
Selected official and high-signal sources covering serious disruption, severe weather, flood, tsunami, earthquake and outbreak updates.
Filtered
Routine notices, duplicates, lower-level advisories and “no danger” updates are filtered out wherever possible.
Delivered
Qualifying alerts are sent to subscribed devices after notification permissions are enabled correctly.

Why this matters

Emergency notifications are useful only when people understand where they came from, what has been filtered out and what they should check next. This guide explains the complete path from monitored source to device, including the limits that can affect delivery.

Reading time: approximately 8 minutes.

The alert flow

1. Sources are monitored

Global Emergency Alerts watches selected sources for serious emergency-related developments. It does not claim to monitor every agency, country or incident worldwide.

2. Alerts are filtered

Customer alerts are reserved for serious events with practical importance. Minor updates and unclear changes may stay internal-only.

3. Subscribers are notified

If an event meets the service threshold, a concise push notification is sent to enabled devices linked to an active subscription.

4. Official guidance still comes first

Global Emergency Alerts is an additional awareness layer only. Always follow official warnings, emergency services and local authority instructions.

What alerts may cover

The service focuses on selected serious developments, including:

  • Official emergency alerts and major public safety warnings
  • Highest-level severe weather and severe flood warnings
  • Major earthquakes and earthquake-related tsunami risks
  • Official tsunami notices from monitored warning centres
  • Disease outbreak updates from official health sources
  • Major disruption affecting travel, communications, power, payments, fuel or preparedness

How to subscribe and enable alerts

Step 1

Choose a plan

Select monthly or annual access from the subscription section.

Step 2

Complete checkout

After payment, follow the confirmation page instructions.

Step 3

Allow notifications

Enable browser or device notifications. On iPhone or iPad, you may need to add the site to the Home Screen, open it from there, then enable alerts.

Step 4

Keep permissions on

If notifications are blocked, reset, disabled or restricted by device settings, alerts may not arrive.

Browser setup notes

After you allow notifications, setup can take 20–60 seconds. Keep the page open until it shows Alerts are ready.

Chrome / Edge

Click Enable notifications, choose Allow, then wait for the device link to finish.

Firefox

If setup seems slow, wait and refresh once. If blocked, use the shield icon to allow this site, then retry.

iPhone / iPad

Open in Safari, add to Home Screen, then open the new icon and enable notifications from there.

Device limit

Each subscription allows 2 personal devices. Use Manage Alert Devices to replace one.

What the service is not

  • Not a rolling news feed
  • Not a government emergency warning system
  • Not a guarantee that every incident will be detected or sent
  • Not a guarantee of delivery to every browser, device or operating system
  • Not a replacement for official warnings, emergency services or local authority instructions

Important delivery limits

No push-alert service can honestly guarantee delivery in every situation. Source availability, internet connection, browser support, device permissions, battery settings, focus modes, operating system behaviour and third-party push services can all affect whether an alert arrives.

Keep at least one other reliable source of urgent information. Global Emergency Alerts should be treated as an extra awareness layer, not your only safety-critical alert system.
